about

Jerome Abramovitch is a world-renowned photographer and performance artist based out of Montreal.  He also happens to be an ex-bike messenger who worked on and off the road from 1997 to 2004 as he built up his freelance photography career. His main business and portfolio operates under the banner of chapter9photography.com

Jerome has evolved from an underground artist shooting personal & documentary work in the hardcore body modification and fetish scenes of the mid-late 90s to a commercial photographer taking on the worlds of entertainment, sports, fashion and advertising in 2009.  He is known amongst his peers for his extreme originality, outside-of-the-box ideas, edgy content, distinct compositions, subtle lighting and sharp computer skills.  His work and his own image are well recognized in Europe, Japan, not to mention the Americas… at least in the right circles.

Jerome was certified twice by the Guinness World Book of Records (1999 and 2007) for his mind-over-matter body performances and has been featured on Ripley’s Believe it or Not, the Learning Channel, the Ricki Lake Show, Pro-Sieben in Germany, Medical Incredible in Australia, as well as all kinds of other print/web/TV media worldwide.  He is immortalized as the cover model for the controversial ModCon books (North American and Japanese editions) released in 2002 and 2004. Jerome is the urban ninja cyclist, the man with the inflatable forehead, the guy who cut his own finger off, the guy with all the scars.  He’s also the well dressed artist at his openings, the articulated TV guest challenging listeners to know themselves, the sponsored artist humbly backed by serious players in the photography and computer industries.  Jerome’s exhibition history includes presenting his modern-primitive portraits as a part of the Quebec City Museum of Civilisation’s Anthropology exhibit, as well as a solo exhibit of his bike messenger work at Montreal’s legendary underground punk/alternative bar Foufounes Electriques in November-December of 2008 as a part of their 25th anniversary celebrations.

Jerome launched his new chapter9photography.com website in July 2009.  His complete “projectmessenger” website should be online by August 2009.  He is currently working on new pieces for his Mannequin Series, as well as traveling the world to shoot his eccentric collection of friends.  Travel plans for 2009 include the Cycle Messenger World Championships and a solo exhibit in Tokyo in September; his Project Messenger book is scheduled for a 2010 release.
